Riyadh – Saudi student Maryam has achieved remarkable success in the field of technology and innovation, securing first place in the “Innovation in Electronic Systems” competition recently organized by King Saud University.
Maryam, 21 years old, is a fourth-year student at the College of Engineering, majoring in Computer Engineering. She successfully designed an intelligent system for monitoring air quality in enclosed spaces, utilizing artificial intelligence technologies.
In a statement to “Al-Riyadh Newspaper,” Maryam said: “My goal with this project was to provide a practical solution to the problem of indoor air pollution, which affects human health. I used advanced sensors and smart algorithms in designing the system to analyze the surrounding environment and provide immediate recommendations.”
She added: “I am proud to represent Saudi women in the fields of science and technology, and I aspire to contribute to developing innovative solutions to our community’s problems.”
Dr. Ahmed Al-Zahrani, Dean of the College of Engineering, praised Maryam’s achievement, saying: “This victory is a crowning achievement of the efforts our university makes in supporting and encouraging creative students. Maryam is an exemplary model for Saudi young women who excel in scientific and technological fields.”
Maryam received a financial prize of 50,000 Saudi riyals, in addition to an opportunity to incubate her project at the university’s technology business incubator.
It is worth mentioning that this is not Maryam’s first achievement in the field of innovation. She previously won second place in the “Hajj Hackathon” in 2022 for a project aimed at facilitating pilgrims’ movement using a smart application.
This achievement comes within the framework of the efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to empower women and support their participation in science, technology, and innovation sectors, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

  • New Study Reveals: A Few Minutes of Daily Movement Could Extend Lifespan

A recent scientific study revealed that practicing just a few minutes of physical activity daily can contribute to extending life and improving overall health, providing a strong motivation for those who believe that sports require long hours of training.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge conducted a 5-year study involving more than 30,000 participants from various age groups. The study focused on the impact of simple daily movement on overall health and longevity.

    Key findings:
    – People who engage in 11 minutes of moderate physical activity daily reduce their risk of premature death by 23% compared to those who do not engage in any activity.
    – Even light activities like brisk walking or climbing stairs for 5 minutes, 3 times a day, show tangible health benefits.
    – People who sit for long periods can significantly reduce health risks by engaging in 22 minutes of physical activity daily.

    Expert analysis:
Dr. John Smith, the lead researcher in the study, said: “The main message is that any amount of movement is better than no movement at all. People don’t need to engage in long hours of sports to reap health benefits.”

    The broader context:
This study comes within a series of research that emphasizes the importance of movement in daily life, especially with the rise in sedentary behavior rates due to modern technology.

    Official statements:
Dr. Ahmed Al-Zahrani, a Saudi cardiologist, said: “This study is very important because it removes psychological barriers to exercising. Even 10 minutes a day can make a big difference in heart health.”

    Conclusion:
The study confirms that incorporating more movement into daily life, even if simple, can have a significant impact on health and longevity. The biggest challenge remains motivating people to start and continue these healthy habits.

In the literary and cultural history of the Qassim region, the name Saleh bin Suleiman Al-Maghmasi holds a distinguished position as one of the most prominent figures who left a clear mark on the development of intellectual and cultural life in the region.

Al-Maghmasi was born in Buraidah, Qassim, and was known for his diverse contributions across various literary and cultural fields. He was a model of a encyclopedic scholar who combined knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence, language, and literature, making him a scientific and literary reference in the region.

Throughout his rich career, Al-Maghmasi contributed to establishing many cultural and educational projects that helped spread knowledge and awareness in society. He was also known for his wide relationships with scholars and writers of his time, which contributed to the exchange of ideas and experiences between different regions of the Kingdom.

His private library, which contained hundreds of volumes of rare manuscripts and books, is considered one of the most prominent intellectual legacies he left behind, serving as a scientific resource for researchers and students in the region.

It is noted that Al-Maghmasi paid special attention to educating youth, holding weekly scientific circles and lessons in the mosque, which contributed to graduating a generation of scholars and writers who carried the torch of knowledge after him.

Many contemporaries praised Al-Maghmasi’s personality, describing him as humble, friendly, loving goodness for all, and always striving to serve his community.

According to historians, Al-Maghmasi spent his life serving knowledge and literature until his death, which left a great void in the cultural scene of Qassim. • New Study Reveals: 15 Minutes of Daily Movement Can Extend Lifespan

A recent scientific study conducted by researchers at King Saud University’s College of Medicine revealed that even 15 minutes of daily physical activity can significantly impact overall health and longevity.

The researchers found that individuals who engage in moderate physical activity for 15 minutes daily, such as brisk walking or light household chores, have up to a 14% lower risk of premature death compared to those who remain completely sedentary.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Mahna, head of the research team, explained that “the results confirm that exercise is not limited to gyms or intense workouts, but even simple daily movement has a significant positive impact on health.”

The study included over 5,000 participants from various age groups in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, and lasted for two years. Researchers used movement-tracking devices to accurately measure physical activity levels.

This study comes within the framework of national efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, as the Ministry of Health recently launched the “15 Minutes Changes Your Life” campaign to encourage citizens to engage in daily physical activity.

Previous studies had linked sedentary behavior to increased risks of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, but this Saudi study is the first of its kind in the Kingdom to demonstrate the benefits of even simple movement.

It’s worth noting that the World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, but this Saudi study shows that even less than that can make a difference.

These findings are good news for those who struggle with time constraints or difficulty adhering to intensive exercise programs, as they prove that good health requires only a little regular daily movement.

In controversial statements that sparked widespread debate in sports circles, French star Karim Benzema opened the door to the possibility of leaving Al-Ittihad Club in Saudi Arabia at the end of the current season.

In an interview with the French newspaper “L’Equipe,” the 36-year-old Benzema confirmed that he had not made a final decision regarding his continuation with the Saudi team, indicating that he would determine his future after the end of the current season.

The French player added: “I faced some difficulties at the beginning of my journey here, but I worked hard and gradually improved. Now I feel that I am delivering good levels and contributing to the team’s success.”

Since his move to Al-Ittihad Club in the summer of 2023 from Real Madrid, Benzema has scored 15 goals in 29 matches in various competitions so far, despite missing some matches due to injuries.

Benzema had previously stated in an interview with the French magazine “France Football” that his future on the field might be linked to his ability to compete at the highest levels, hinting at the possibility of retirement if he felt he was no longer able to deliver the best.

This statement comes at a time when Al-Ittihad Club is going through a transitional phase after the departure of its Portuguese coach Nuno Santo, which puts Benzema’s future with the team under the spotlight.
