The Kingdom Celebrates Founding Day: Deep Roots and Firm National Identity

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrates today the annual anniversary of Founding Day, which falls on February 22 each year, marking the day that symbolizes the beginning of the establishment of the First Saudi State by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727 AD. This celebration embodies pride in the deep roots of the Saudi state and the close connection between citizens and their leaders and historical symbols.

In this context, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, affirmed in a speech on the occasion of Founding Day that “Founding Day is a dear memory in all our hearts, as it is a day when we recall the beginning of the establishment of the First Saudi State by Imam Mohammed bin Saud three centuries ago, and we draw inspiration from the values and principles upon which this blessed state was founded.”
On his part, historian Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Othaimeen said: “Founding Day is a precious national occasion in the hearts of Saudis, where they recall their ancient history and civilization, and take pride in their leaders who founded this great state and preserved it generation after generation.”
According to official statistics, the number of events and activities celebrating Founding Day in all regions of the Kingdom this year exceeded 3,500 events, in which millions of citizens and residents participated. Historical sites and museums also witnessed a large turnout of visitors who were keen to learn about the Kingdom’s ancient history and heritage.
In the chronological sequence of the establishment of the Saudi state, we find that Imam Mohammed bin Saud founded the First Saudi State in Diriyah in 1727 AD, which lasted until 1818 AD. Then the Second Saudi State was established by Imam Turki bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saud in 1824 AD, which lasted until 1891 AD. Finally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was established by King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud in 1932 AD, which is the third state in which we live today.
On this precious national occasion, Saudi citizens renew their pride in their country’s history and civilization, and their pride in their leaders who have preserved the unity and stability of this blessed state since its establishment three centuries ago. They also affirm their adherence to their firm national identity, and their continuation of the path of construction and development under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his faithful Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.
