في الثالث والعشرين من سبتمبر عام 1932، أصدر الملك عبد العزيز آل سعود مرسوماً ملكياً بتوحيد أجزاء شبه الجزيرة العربية تحت اسم “المملكة العربية السعودية”، ليعلن بذلك عن ولادة دولة جديدة في المنطقة.
كانت هذه الخطوة التاريخية تتويجاً لثلاثة عقود من الجهود الحثيثة التي بذلها الملك عبد العزيز لتوحيد القبائل والإمارات المتفرقة تحت راية واحدة. وقد جاء هذا التوحيد بعد سلسلة من المعارك والاتفاقات السياسية التي بدأت باستعادة الرياض عام 1902.
قال الملك عبد العزيز بهذه المناسبة: “إننا نعلن قيام المملكة العربية السعودية، ونحن ندعو الله أن يوفقنا لخدمة شعبنا وتحقيق تطلعاته في التقدم والازدهار.”
منذ تأسيسها، شهدت المملكة نقلة نوعية في جميع المجالات. ففي عام 1938، تم اكتشاف النفط في المنطقة الشرقية، ليشكل نقلة اقتصادية هائلة. وبحلول عام 1960، أصبحت المملكة واحدة من أكبر منتجي ومصدري النفط في العالم.
وقد حرصت المملكة على تطوير بنيتها التحتية وخدماتها العامة. ففي عام 1953، تم إنشاء أول وزارة للنفط والثروة المعدنية، وفي عام 1970، تم افتتاح جامعة الملك سعود، لتكون أول جامعة حكومية في المملكة.
وفي مجال التعليم، ارتفعت نسبة الالتحاق بالمدارس من 2% فقط عند تأسيس المملكة إلى أكثر من 99% حالياً. كما ارتفع متوسط العمر المتوقع من 38 عاماً في عام 1950 إلى أكثر من 74 عاماً حالياً.
على الصعيد الدولي، لعبت المملكة دوراً محورياً في تأسيس منظمة الدول المصدرة للبترول (أوبك) عام 1960، وفي عام 1981، كانت من الدول المؤسسة لمجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية.
اليوم، وبعد مرور 91 عاماً على تأسيسها، تواصل المملكة العربية السعودية مسيرة التنمية والبناء تحت قيادة خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز وولي عهده الأمين صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير محمد بن سلمان. ومن خلال رؤية المملكة 2030، تسعى السعودية لتحقيق نقلة نوعية في اقتصادها ومجتمعها، لتصبح في مصاف الدول المتقدمة.
