The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrated today the first anniversary of “Founding Day,” which falls on February 22 of each year, in accordance with the royal order issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in January 2022.
Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud stated in a press interview that “Founding Day is a national occasion dear to all our hearts, during which Saudis recall the glorious founding story that began three centuries ago by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727, when he laid the foundations of the first Saudi state.”
Prince Badr added that “celebrating Founding Day comes as an opportunity for us to draw inspiration from values of pride in deep-rooted origins and the close connection between leadership and people, and to adhere to the constants, principles, and morals upon which the Saudi state was founded since its inception.”
Various regions of the Kingdom witnessed numerous cultural and heritage events and activities during Founding Day, as streets and squares were adorned with flags and decorations, and folklore and artistic performances were organized celebrating national identity.
In Riyadh, the King Abdulaziz Historical Center witnessed an official celebration attended by senior officials and public figures, which included a visual presentation about the founding journey and achievements realized over three centuries.
Prince Badr bin Abdullah noted that “Founding Day represents an opportunity for young generations to learn about their country’s ancient history and the role of imams and kings in building, unifying, and elevating the Saudi state to the ranks of advanced nations.”
The minister concluded his statements by saying: “Today, after three centuries of founding, we are living in an era of renaissance and prosperity under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his faithful Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, may God protect them, and we look forward to a bright future for our beloved homeland under the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030.”
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz had issued on January 27, 2022, a royal order stipulating that February 22 of each year shall be a day commemorating the founding of the Saudi state, named (Founding Day), and shall become an official holiday.
The celebration of Founding Day comes as a national initiative aimed at enhancing pride in national identity and connection to the Kingdom’s deep historical roots, and commemorating the passage of three centuries since the founding journey began by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727.
