وقد أصدر الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز، في يناير 2022، أمراً ملكياً باعتبار يوم 22 فبراير من كل عام يوماً لذكرى تأسيس الدولة السعودية، باسم “يوم التأسيس”، ليكون إضافة إلى اليوم الوطني للمملكة في 23 سبتمبر من كل عام.
وتعود أهمية هذا اليوم إلى أنه يمثل بداية تأسيس الدولة السعودية الأولى على يد الإمام محمد بن سعود في إمارة الدرعية عام 1727م، والتي استمرت حتى عام 1818م. وقد شكلت هذه الدولة نواة لتوحيد معظم مناطق شبه الجزيرة العربية تحت راية التوحيد والدعوة الإصلاحية التي قادها الإمام محمد بن عبد الوهاب.
