Saudi Arabia celebrated the first anniversary of “Founding Day” today, which falls on February 22nd each year, in accordance with the royal decree issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in January 2022.
Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud stated in a press interview that “Founding Day is a dear national occasion for all of us, where Saudis recall the glorious story of founding that began three centuries ago at the hands of Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727 AD, when he laid the foundations of the first Saudi state.”
Prince Badr added that “celebrating Founding Day comes so that we can draw inspiration from it for the values of pride in deep roots and the strong bond between leadership and people, and adherence to the constants, principles and morals upon which the Saudi state was founded since its inception.”
Various regions of the Kingdom witnessed numerous cultural and heritage events and activities during Founding Day, where streets and squares were adorned with flags and decorations, and folklore and artistic performances were organized to celebrate national identity.
In Riyadh, an official celebration was held at the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, attended by senior officials and public figures, which included a visual presentation about the founding journey and achievements made over three centuries.
Prince Badr bin Abdullah noted that “Founding Day represents an opportunity for young generations to learn about their country’s ancient history and the role of imams and kings in building and unifying the Saudi state and elevating it to the ranks of advanced nations.”
The minister concluded his statements by saying: “Today, after three centuries of founding, we are living in an era of renaissance and prosperity under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his faithful Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, may God protect them, and we look forward to a bright future for our dear homeland under the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030.”
King Salman bin Abdulaziz had issued on January 27, 2022, a royal order stipulating that February 22nd of each year shall be a day commemorating the founding of the Saudi state, called (Founding Day), and it shall be an official holiday.
The celebration of Founding Day comes as a national initiative aimed at enhancing pride in national identity and connection to the deep historical roots of the Kingdom, and commemorating the passage of three centuries since the beginning of the founding journey at the hands of Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727 AD.
