Incomplete Squad: Challenges of the New Season

The new season of the Saudi Professional League opened with an unexpected surprise, as Al-Raed found themselves entering their opening match with an incomplete squad, raising questions about the team’s readiness for the upcoming challenges.
The team had lost their attacking midfielder Abdulaziz Al-Jebreen during the summer transfer window, in addition to Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik sustaining an injury in the team’s final training session before the season. These sudden absences left Argentine coach Gustavo Alvaro in a difficult position, especially with limited time to find suitable replacements.
In a statement to the club’s sporting director, he explained that “the team faces significant challenges at the start of the season, but we trust in the technical staff and available players’ ability to deliver a respectable performance.”
It’s worth noting that Al-Raed finished last season in eighth place and aspires to improve their ranking among league teams this season. But with such an incomplete start, the team may find themselves in an early predicament that will be difficult to overcome.
This comes at a time when Saudi football is witnessing notable development in terms of professionalism and investment, making such organizational errors more apparent and subject to criticism.
The most important question remains: Can Al-Raed address this deficiency before it’s too late? Or will this start be an omen of a long and difficult season?
