  • King Mohammed bin Saud: Pioneer of the Unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

On the 275th anniversary of the founding of the First Saudi State, we recall the life of its founding leader, King Muhammad bin Saud bin Muhammad bin Muqrin (1090-1179 AH). With his political acumen and military courage, he laid the foundation for what would later become the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

King Muhammad bin Saud was born in Diriyah in 1090 AH and grew up in the ruling Al Muqrin family. He assumed the emirate of Diriyah in 1139 AH. In 1157 AH, he signed a historic agreement with Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, leading to a powerful alliance between political and religious forces, paving the way for the establishment of the First Saudi State in 1157 AH.

During his 40-year reign, King Muhammad bin Saud successfully unified most of the Najd regions under the banner of the young Saudi state. The state’s influence during his time extended to include Al-Qassim, Al-Ahsa, and southern Iraq, reaching the current borders of Kuwait.

Historians praised King Muhammad bin Saud’s wisdom, his ability to build a strong and organized army, and establish balanced diplomatic relations with neighboring countries. His reign was also characterized by the application of Islamic Sharia in all aspects of life and the encouragement of science and education.

King Muhammad bin Saud passed away in 1179 AH, leaving behind a great legacy and a strong state. His son and successor, Imam Abdulaziz bin Muhammad bin Saud, said of him: “My father, may Allah have mercy on him, was a righteous man, just in his rule, beloved by his subjects, and striving for their interests.”

Today, centuries later, the principles and values of King Muhammad bin Saud still form the basic reference for governance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His wise leadership and far-sighted vision paved the way for the unification of the country and the building of a strong modern state, standing today as a testament to the greatness of this founding leader.

In the world of football, few have achieved success both as players and coaches. However, Filippo Inzaghi, the former Italian star, has proven his worth in both fields, becoming one of the most prominent names in the history of the beautiful game.

Born on August 9, 1973, in Pavia, Italy, Inzaghi began his football career with Piovese in the Italian third division. But his exceptional talent for finishing attacks caught the attention of bigger clubs, leading him to move to Piacenza and then Atalanta, where he shone brightly, scoring 15 goals in his first season in the Italian league.

However, the highlight of his playing career was with Milan, where he moved in 2001 for €43 million. With “The Rossoneri,” Inzaghi won all possible titles, including the UEFA Champions League twice, the Italian league once, the UEFA Super Cup twice, and the FIFA Club World Cup once. On the international stage, Inzaghi was one of the heroes of Italy’s 2006 World Cup victory, despite his limited playing time.

Inzaghi retired from playing in 2012 to begin his coaching career with Milan, where he led the first team for two seasons. But his real experience began with Benevento in the Italian second division, where he led them to promotion to Serie A for the first time in the club’s history.

In 2019, Inzaghi took charge of Bologna, leading them to a high position in the Italian league. But his greatest achievement so far was with Lazio, where he took over in 2021. In his first season, he led “The Eagles” to win the Italian Cup, and in the following season, he won the Italian Super Cup against Inter Milan.

Inzaghi says about his coaching philosophy: “I like high pressing and quick counter-attacks. I want my team to play with ferocity and a desire to win until the last moment.”

He added in press statements: “I learn every day from my players and other coaches. I try to develop myself constantly to keep up with the tactical developments in the game.”
